Yr Ysgol
Sefydlwyd Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain yn 1958 i gynnig addysg gynradd
ddwyieithog i blant sydd a'u rhieni yn byw ac yn gweithio yn Llundain.
Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain yw'r unig ysgol Gymraeg tu allan i Gymru. I'r
rhai ag ymgyrchodd i sefydlu'r ysgol ac i'r rhieni a'r cefnogwyr sydd
wedi gweithio i gadw'r Ysgol Gymraeg ar agor yn ystod y 47 mlynedd
diwethaf, mae'n sefydliad hynod o bwysig sy'n galluogi plant yn
Llundain i gael eu haddysgu o fewn awyrgylch gwbl Gymraeg.
The School
The Welsh School was founded in 1958 with the aim of providing
children in London with a Welsh medium education. It was, and remains,
the only Welsh medium school outside the borders of Wales. For those
who campaigned to establish the school in the 1950s, and for the many
parents and supporters who have worked to keep Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain
open during the subsequent 47 years, it is an immensely important
institution that allows children in London to be educated within a
totally Welsh environment.

I ddarparu addysg Gymraeg dwyieithog tu allan i Gymru

To enjoy two different cultures
To help the child to feel a part of Wales, a sense of belonging
To provide a warm, caring pastoral environment in which to learn
To have high expectations of all pupils
To ensure that all pupils have equality of opportunity
To develop responsibility and self-discipline in all pupils
To establish a school of which everyone is proud and within which
everyone can work together
To foster and develop good relationships with the local community
Iaith
Mae gan yr iaith Gymraeg hanes hir a chyfoethog, ond mae hi hefyd yn
iaith gyfoes a bywiog sy'n edrych tua'r dyfodol. Mae Cymraeg yn iaith
sydd wedi goroesi drwy'r canrifoedd ac mae'r adfywiad rydyn ni wedi ei
weld yn ystod y 50 mlynedd diwethaf yn sicrhau y bydd hi'n datblygu eto
ac yn iaith y gall pawb fod yn falch ohoni. Gwelwyd mwy a mwy o alw yn
ddiweddar am addysg trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg, sy'n brawf i'w llwyddiant.
Mewn awyrgylch cefnogol gall unrhyw blentyn ddysgu siarad Cymraeg yn
rhwydd fel mae'r plant yn gallu dysgu unrhyw iaith pa mor gymhleth
bynnag yw'r iaith honno.
Language
The Welsh language has a long and rich history but it's also a lively
contemporary language with an eye very firmly on the future. Welsh is a
strong language, which has survived over the centuries and the
revitalisation that we have seen during the past 50 years ensures that
it will continue to develop and remain a language that everyone can be
proud of. It is evident that Welsh medium education is extremely
successful because of the enormous growth which has been fuelled by
parental demand. In a supportive atmosphere, any child can learn to
speak Welsh easily, just as children can learn any language, no matter
how complicated that language may be.
Dwyieithrwydd
Dywed ymchwilwyr i'r pwnc fod gan blant ddwyieithog sgiliau cyfathrebu,
gwrando a datrys problemau gwell na'u cyfoedion uniaith. Mae
dwyieithrwydd hefyd yn baratoad da at ddysgu ieithoedd eraill.
Bilingualism
The most recent research into bilingualism suggests that bilingual
children have better communication skills, listening skills and
problem-solving skills than their monoglot peers. Bilingualism is also
an excellent preparation for learning further languages.
HANES
Cefndir
Sefydlwyd Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain ym 1958, i ddarparu addysg gynradd
Gymraeg yn Llundain. Mae'n ysgol gyfeillgar gydag awyrgylch deuluol ac
fe gynigir addysg gwbl ddwyeithog tra'n cynnal ymwybyddiaeth o
ddiwylliant Gymreig. Cyrhaeddir safonau addysgol uchel trwy gyfuniad a
ddosbarthiadau bychain a phwyslais traddodiadol Gymreig ar bwysigrwydd
addysg.
Fel rheol ceir dau ddosbarth
yn yr ysgol. Sefydlir y Gymraeg yn y Dosbarth Derbyn a datblygir
sgiliau sylfaenol y plant trwy y gyfrwng y Gymraeg. Cyflwynir Saesneg
yn ystod Blwyddyn 3. Rhoddir pwyslais ar y Saesneg a'r Gymraeg i
sicrhau fod y plant yn trosglwyddo'n ddi-drafferth i ysgolion uwchradd
Cymraeg neu Saesneg.
Addysg
Trwy feithrin awyrgylch addas a chartrefol ac oherwydd maint bychan y
dosbarthiadau, y nod yw sicrhau bod pob plentyn yn datblygu'n unigolyn
hyderus. Rhoddir llawn sylw i anghenion cymdeithasol, moesol, ysbrydol
a chorfforol y plentyn yn ogystal â'i ddatblygaid
ysgolheigaidd.
Defnyddir dulliau
dysgu amrywiol. Dysgir llawer o bynciau craidd y Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol
drwy thema. Serch hynny, ychwanegir at y dull thematig drwy ddulliau
mwy traddodiadol, fel ymarferion ysgrifennu a llyfrau gwaith mathemateg
strwythuredig, i sicrhau fod pob plentyn yn cyrraedd ei lawn botensial.
Asesir y plant yn
gyson, a chofnodir eu datblygiad bob hanner tymor gan nodi lefel eu
cyrhaeddiad o fewn y pynciau craidd yn y Cwricwlwm cenedlaethol.
Gosodir profion bob tymor, ac mae disglybion 7 ac 11 mlwydd oed yn
cymeryd rhan yn yt Asesu Cwricwlwm Cenedlaethol yn ôl Deddf
Addysg 1988.
Cynhelir noson
agored yn ystod tymor yr haf pryd y gall rhieni weld gwaith y plant a
thrafod unrhyw problemau gyda'r athro. Bydd y rheini yn derbyn
adroddiad ysgrifenedig ffurfiol ar ddatblygiad ei plentyn ar ddiwedd y
flwyddyn academaidd. Fe gynnwys yr adroddiad asesiad llawn gan yr athro.
HISTORY
The Welsh School was established in 1958 to provide, in London, a Welsh
primary education. It is a friendly school with a family atmosphere
catering for children whose parents wish them to grow up with a Welsh
identity and to receive a fully bilingual education. High educational
standards are achieved as a result of the small classes and traditional
Welsh emphasis on the importance of education.
There are two classes in the school. Welsh is established in the entry
class and children learn the basic skills through the medium of Welsh.
English is introduced in the second class and equal emphasis on both
English and Welsh ensures that children are able to progress easily to
English or Welsh secondary schools.
Education Course
The friendly atmosphere of the school, as well as the low pupil/teacher
ratio, ensures that individual attention can be given and therefore
each child will develop as a confident individual. Full attention is
given to the children's social, moral, spiritual and physical needs as
well as their intellectual development.
A variety of teaching methods are used. A theme is chosen each term
through which many of the core subjects of the National Curriculum are
taught. However, the thematic method is supplemented by more
traditional methods such as structured mathematics workbooks and
comprehension exercises to ensure that all children achieve their full
potential.
The children are continually assessed by the teacher and records of
each child's progress are kept every half term with details of their
level of attainment in the core subjects of the National Curriculum.
Tests are set at regular intervals and all pupils are given the
National Curriculum tasks at the ages of 7 and 11 in accordance with
the 1988 Education Act.
An open evening is held during the summer term in which parents are
able to see their child's work and discuss any problems with the
teacher. At the end of the summer term the parents receive a formal
written report on their child's progress which is based on a full
assessment by the class teacher.
